Joseon white porcelain, distinguished by its pure white aesthetic and sense of restraint, represents the pinnacle of Joseon-era ceramics, alongside the unpretentious and free-spirited buncheong ware. These white porcelain vessels come in various types — such as Ipho (tall jars), Wonho (round jars), and Daeho (large jars) — categorized by their size and shape. The Ipho is a tall jar characterized by a broad shoulder that tapers downward toward the base. The Wonho is a jar with a round, moon-like shape. The larger versions, known as Daeho, are commonly referred to as “moon jars.” Despite their differing forms, all of these vessels serve as a source of boundless inspiration for contemporary artists. In my work, the forms of these white porcelain vessels and moon jars have been rendered through simple lines, translating them into a modern visual language.
