The craftspeople employed by the royal family of Joseon painted a variety of works with blue pigment on white porcelain to create blue and white porcelain as a second center of production outside China. As the import of blue pigments increased in the 18th century, more and more Gilsangmun appeared, the lucky omen wishing for long life and happiness which was the public’s requirement at the time.
At the center of an exhibition at the Gana Art Center in Seoul, a Cheonghwagukmodangjun was standing all alone. On that single white porcelain vase, various elements were placed in perfect harmony with each other. The formal beauty was so powerful, sophisticated, and refined that I was inspired to turn it into a contemporary pattern design.
