Located close to Hwaeomsa Temple in Saseongam Rock in Gurye there is a hermitage with a superb view, as it sits on a sheer cliff. The moss of the water combed rock nearby captivated my heart. It was as if was embroidered on stone, or like an abstract painting. I had seen moss from France and other European countries, but the combination of sandstone and moss made her feel in the presence of some unknown power. Although my new work usually has a clear formal pattern, I have been increasingly trying to bring the rough and changing shapes of nature into her designs, enjoying the freedom it offers. This is an intimate, modern, version of the timeless Korean tradition of “Borrowed Landscape”.
